Nick Verreos at the 2018 FIDM Advanced Program in Menswear 2018 Graduates Presentation--FIDM Los Angeles

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM 2018 Advanced Study in Menswear Presentation in Downtown Los Angeles. The 2018 FIDM Advanced Study Program in Menswear students were challenged to incorporate an element of Wearable Technology into their graduate fashion collections and in particular, one of the garments they designed. For this "Wearable Tech" aspect, the FIDM students were mentored by Lief Morin, CEO of Key Information Systems, who also supplied the necessary Wearable Tech pieces.

Prior to the Presentation, the ten students in the program were judged by an illustrious panel of judges including Joe Knoernschild, Co-Founder of Hurley and Billabong USA; Carl Jones, President of Cross Colours, and Michael Schmidt of Michael Schmidt Studios who created a 3D-printed dress for Dita Von Teese. There were some great Wearable Tech designs including a Solar Powered Backpack, Language Translating Earpieces-incorporated into a jacket, and even a life-saving Skiing/Snowboarding/Avalanche Airbag Coat.
